1.   Summary

This product bulletin announces the availability of support for Infiniband host connectivity to NetApp 10 gigabit and 1 gigabit Ethernet-based (GbE) storage systems using Data ONTAP® 7G and GX operating systems, and NFS and iSCSI protocols.

Support is via integration with Infiniband switch products from QLogic (SilverStorm) and Voltaire, and currently requires a NetApp Product Variance Request (PVR) for configuration validation and support.

2.   What’s New?

PVR-based support of unified-wire Infiniband infrastructures for existing NetApp storage systems with standard iSCSI and NFS protocols is now available. The support includes the use of Mellanox Infiniband Host Channel Adapters (HCAs) via a QLogic (SilverStorm) Infiniband to 10GbE iSCSI-based NetApp storage systems, and Mellanox HCAs via QLogic and Voltaire switches to 1GbE and 10GbE NFS-based NetApp storage systems.

3.   System Requirements

The following configurations have been qualified via the PVR process. All Infiniband requests currently require a PVR; configurations matching the items below may limit the PVR process to support documentation.

The Infiniband switches and HCAs are fulfilled by the respective vendors noted above or via authorized resellers or distributors.

Product Availability

Support of each of the components listed in the configurations above is available today. Sales representatives and SEs who have customers desiring NetApp storage solutions integrated into Infiniband networks should file a PVR to determine if the desired configuration can be supported.

4.   Regulatory Compliance

Products need to be validated against the NetApp Safety/EMI Regulatory Compliance List prior to order submission. The list is available at PartnerCenter Compliance Information. This is required to ensure that products are being sold only in the countries in which NetApp has received regulatory compliance certification.

5.   Warranty and Service
